HELD
ON AUGUST 6, 2009 Save
A Pet held its annual meeting of its members on August 6, 2009 at the
Grits Café in
The following persons were present: Jennie Cox, Pat Corley, Jari
Green, Patricia Scarbary, Dee Watts, Selina Cook, Anna Krampl, Vicki
Smith, Rosie Flanigan, Kathy Hammock, Tess Hammock, Carrie Russell, Mike
Russell, Lucia Carr, Tess Carr, Lori Ugolik and Amy Smith Boyer.
Pat Corley welcomed everyone to the meeting and distributed
financial reports and volunteer lists for the current year for
everyone’s review. Amy
Smith Boyer distributed minutes from the last annual meeting which was
in November 2008 for review. While
everyone was reviewing the financial information and minutes, Pat noted
that the volunteer list are great but that there are numerous people
fundamental to Save A Pet who’s names are not listed on the list such
as Tess and Kathy Hammock who handle our ad spots in 13WMAZ, Dee Watts
keeps the mail list current, Robin Orlando handles thank you notes,
Laurie Kyler handles our
office work and Denise Walker helps Wendy prepare the financial
statements and treasurer’s reports and Rosie Flanigan prepares our
event e-mail mail outs and keeps up with our volunteer hours..
In sum, there are numerous people who constitute the backbone of
Save A Pet who are not always listed on the volunteer lists and we
always must acknowledge our numerous donors. Pat
noted that new volunteer Judy Martin was working on quilts, dog beds,
horse items to sell to generate funds for Save A Pet.
Judy needs old T-shirts and towels to create her projects.
Judy has also created key chains to sell. Other
fundraising projects include consignment items at Indian Springs Antique
store and the Another
item of business concerns our adoption fee.
After considering the increase in costs to spay/neuter and treat
our dogs, and after considering the fees charged by other animal
rescues, the members unanimously voted to raise our adoption fee to
$125.00 per dog. Pat
Corley also noted that local restaurant owner Art Rauscher is offering
Save A Pet the chance to raise money with Bingo one night a week.
The officers and Board of Directors must undergo a background
check, fingerprinting and other security measurers.
The members unanimously voted to proceed with Bingo.
The Annual Pet Parade is August 29, 2009 at the Taylor House. The
members also voted to proceed to modify the T-shirts to make our name
more visible on the front of the T-shirts. Other options discussed
including using a color other than white so stains aren’t so visible. After
a brief discussion of the quantity of meetings, members present
indicated no need to increase the frequency of meetings especially given
our use of e-mail to conduct planning and routine business. Pat
Corley also noted that we need more
sources of free or reduced price dog food.
Ms. Watts suggested we contact some rescue groups in After
a brief discussion, the November 2008 minutes were unanimously approved
as presented. After a brief
discussion the financial reports and balance sheet as of June 30, 2009
were unanimously approved as presented. Pat
Corley recognized Jari Green who presented a slate of proposed Directors
to be added to the Board. Current Board Members Dawn Kennedy, Rosie
Flanigan, and Anna Krampl’s terms
have expired. Jari
suggested these three be nominated for another term.
